Gitea CLI Debian Repository
This repository provides Debian packages for gt, the Gitea command line tool (package gitea-cli), built for amd64 and arm64. gt needs Gitea 28 or newer on the server side.
Each release is downloaded from the official artifacts on dl.gitea.com, the signature of upstream's checksums.txt and the SHA256 checksums are verified, and the result is packaged as a .deb by build.sh in this repository.
The package installs /usr/bin/gt and completions for bash, zsh and fish. It conflicts with Debian's genometools, which also ships /usr/bin/gt.
Client Setup
Packages are published in the Debian package registry of this Gitea instance. Clients must run Debian stable: new versions are published into the distribution of the Debian stable release current at build time.
As root:
curl -fsSL https://git.24unix.net/api/packages/tracer/debian/repository.key -o /etc/apt/keyrings/24unix-gitea.asc
echo "deb [signed-by=/etc/apt/keyrings/24unix-gitea.asc] https://git.24unix.net/api/packages/tracer/debian $(. /etc/os-release; echo $VERSION_CODENAME) main" > /etc/apt/sources.list.d/24unix-gitea.list
apt update
apt install gitea-cli
Then log in to your Gitea instance:
gt auth login
Building
build.sh writes the amd64 and arm64 .deb files into the repository root (stored with Git LFS), commits and pushes them, creates the Gitea release and uploads both files to the Debian package registry.
Requirements
curlgitandgit-lfsjqwgetgpg(with the Gitea release key, Teabot7C9E68152594688862D62AF62D9AE806EC1592E2, in the keyring)xz-utilsdpkg-dev
Usage
Build the latest release:
./build.sh
Build a specific version:
./build.sh 0.1.0
or:
GITEA_CLI_VERSION=0.1.0 ./build.sh
Rebuild an already published upstream version (packaging changes only), e.g. as 0.1.0-2:
PKG_REVISION=2 ./build.sh 0.1.0
Build and commit locally without pushing, releasing or uploading:
NO_PUBLISH=1 ./build.sh
If the version is already built, the script prints SKIP: and only catches up on whatever is missing (unpushed commit, release, registry upload); wrapper.sh sends no mail for those runs with notify=success.
Systemd Timer
Install and enable the nightly build timer (02:30):
cp systemd/gitea-cli-build.service /etc/systemd/system/
cp systemd/gitea-cli-build.timer /etc/systemd/system/
systemctl daemon-reload
systemctl enable --now gitea-cli-build.timer
